Mr. Rorsted, Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) sharply criticized Adidas – supported by Federal Justice Ministries Christine Lambrecht (SPD). He describes it as “a completely unacceptable message” to simply suspend rent payments for the stores that closed two weeks ago due to the corona pandemic. Puma, Deichmann or Hennes & Mauritz did that too. What do you say?
I assume that Mr. Scheuer made this statement without knowing all the facts. That is why I would like to make it clear here: it is not a question of not paying the rent for April. It is a deferral. We are in close contact with the landlords concerned. And to put it just as clearly: we are not talking about the small sports retailer on the corner, we are only talking about our own stores that we run ourselves. Our landlords are usually large real estate marketers and insurance funds there, and they have largely shown understanding for this measure. Our landlords are private individuals only in exceptional cases. Strictly speaking, we have exempted them, they will receive their April rent as usual. We are well aware of our responsibility.
