Apple News: Updates & Headlines This Week

Apple is rumored to be gearing up to unveil new products this week, and with the MacBook Pro teasers, the company seems to be confirming that. Here is an overview of the expected new features.

MacBook Pro M5

Apple has teased a brand new MacBook Pro M5, marking its upcoming launches. Greg Joswiak shared a short video unveiling a MacBook with the tagline: “something powerful is coming.” Best guess is an announcement scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday October 15th.

Previous rumors suggested that the M5 MacBook Pro would retain the basic design of the M4 model, while possibly offering a new blue color, as Joz’s video suggests.

On the other hand, the M5 Pro and M5 Max variants of the MacBook Pro are not expected to be presented this week, their launch having been postponed until early 2026.

New Apple TV 4K

It’s been three years since the last Apple TV 4K update, but a new model is almost here.

Rumors surrounding this new device mention characteristics such as:

  • An A17 Pro processor, replacing the current A15 Bionic
  • Support for Apple Intelligence
  • A new N1 wireless chip from Apple
  • A potentially integrated Center Stage camera

With increasing competition from Google and Amazon, let’s hope Apple delivers a worthy update.

HomePod mini 2

Apple is also expected to launch two new home automation products, including a new HomePod mini.

The original HomePod mini, launched in November 2020, has long been in need of an upgrade. Like the new Apple TV 4K, the HomePod mini 2 could include support for Apple Intelligence and the N1 chip. Audio quality improvements and an updated Ultra Wideband chip are also expected.

iPad Pro M5

After the landmark launch of the iPad Pro last year with the M4 chip, an M5 model should be on the horizon. However, it is meant to be a simple upgrade.

In addition to the new M5 chip, the iPad Pro could integrate Apple’s new N1 chip, 12 GB of RAM for some models, and 16 GB for others, as well as the possibility of dual front cameras. It will be interesting to see if the new C1X modem chip will appear on the iPad Pro, until now reserved for iPhones.

AirTag 2

Although AirTags don’t require a new release every year, anticipation around the AirTag 2 has risen sharply over time. Expected updates include:

  • A new Ultra Wideband chip
  • A stronger focus on privacy features
  • Precision searching with improved range

Except for these new features, the AirTag 2 should resemble its predecessor in terms of design and operation.

Vision Pro M5

The Vision Pro, launched at the beginning of 2024, has not yet found its audience. A new version, the Vision Pro 2, is expected, but it may not generate much enthusiasm.

According to rumors, the Vision Pro 2 will integrate an M5 chip, a new strap for more comfort, possibly with a black finish, while retaining the same shape and functionality as the original model.

New Studio Display and others

Mark Gurman recently mentioned that a fall launch could be on the cards for two new Mac displays. At least one of them should be the successor to the Apple Studio Display.

It is therefore possible that a new Studio Display will be announced tomorrow with the launch of the M5 MacBook Pro, although its release could be postponed until early next year to accompany the M5 Pro and M5 Max models of the MacBook Pro.

Recently, hints of a new Pro Display XDR have also been seen, although it remains uncertain whether this display is ready for launch any time soon.
