Bitcoin Web Domains: A 2010 History – TradingView

by Archynetys Economy Desk

A portfolio of over 280 domain names relating to Bitcoin is at auction, some of which are recorded immediately after the launch of the cryptocurrency in 2010.

According to Lloyds Auctions, many lotto domains have already been recorded in 2010 and are now offered as the only lot to the bidders.

The collection covers the main sectors of Bitcoin, including payments, custody, exchange, education and infrastructure. Examples include Bitcoinblockchain.com, Bitcoinwallets.com, BitcoinexChanes.com, Bitcoinremittars.com and Bitcoinbooks.com.

The lot also includes geographically targeted names, such as japanbitcoin.com, GermanyBitcoin.com, Africabitcoin.com and Unitedkingdombitcoin.com.

Although the origins of the recordings have not been revealed, the “ancient” dates have fueled speculations on the fact that the names can be connected to the original community of Bitcoin developers.

Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer of Lloyds Auctions, described the offer as “A complete suite of digital assets that define the online bitcoin space”. He added that the buyer “It will not only have names, but also the language of the digital economy of Bitcoin”.

The sale follows the 3 million dollar record auction for XBT.com ended in April this year by Lloyds Auctions, an Australian auction house that manages a wide range of sales, including vehicles, properties, collectibles and digital assets.

Crypto names enter the Domini record sales ranking

Sales of high value domains have been part of the internet economy for some time, with names such as Voice.com sold for 30 million dollars in 2019 and 360.com for $ 17 million in 2015. The short and highly brandable addresses have always requested high prices from companies that seek visibility and authority online.

The domains relating to cryptocurrencies followed a similar trajectory. In 2014, BTC.com was sold for about $ 1 million, while Eth.com has passed by 2 million dollars in 2017 and in 2018 Monaco changed its name to Crypto.com after having acquired the domain with an agreement with the value between 10 and 12 million dollars.

More recently, NFTS.com was sold for $ 15 million in 2022, while Cryptobank.com reached $ 1.35 million in the same year.

In 2025, the .Ai and .com domains dominated the sales charts, but the names related to the Crypto world remain active. The Crypto.bot domain was sold via sedo for $ 250,000, while the $ 3 million Lloyds dollar auction for XBT.com in April established the last benchmark for the domains related to Bitcoin.

Web3 domains earn ground together with traditional sales

The “web3 domains” based on blockchain emerged as another market sector. Unlike the conventional domains rented through Registrar, the web3 domains are recorded on Blockchain and work as digital identifiers and wallet addresses.

The Ethereum Name Service (.eth) is the most used, although other providers such as UNSTOPPABLE DOMAins offer extensions such as .Crypt and .nft.

Some of these names have also reached significant sums. Paradigm.eth was sold in October 2021 for 420 ETH, or about 1.5 million dollars. Other noteworthy transactions include 000.eth for 300 ETH, or about $ 320,000 at the time of sale.
