The case of missing National Guard soldier Matthew Johnson took a dark turn when his wife, Jennifer Gledhila, 42, was arrested on October 2, 2024, on suspicion of first-degree murder. The arrest followed a chilling confession Gledhila allegedly made to her lover on September 22, 2024, detailing the events of Johnson’s disappearance.
According to authorities,Gledhila confessed to her lover that after her husband,Matthew Johnson, confronted her about an affair, she shot him in the head with his own 9mm gun while he slept. She then allegedly placed his body in a car roof storage container, loaded it into their minivan, and buried him in a shallow grave near their home in Hait.
The lover, disturbed by the confession, reportedly recorded a subsequent phone call with gledhila. When he expressed fear,Gledhila allegedly responded: “Oho,if you think I could even hurt the fly,” she said. “He was no longer a man.He wasn’t a bed.”
The man then provided text message screenshots and audio recordings of their phone call to the police, leading to Gledhila’s arrest. The remains of Matthew Johnson have not yet been found.
“Matthew Johnson has not disappeared,” said Emilia Paulosa, Deputy Prosecutor of the Salt Lake City District, at a court hearing on 28 Febuary 2025. “Matthew Johnson was killed by the accused.”
Gledhila has pleaded not guilty and is currently held in the Salt Lake City District Prison. Her trial is scheduled to begin in December 2025.
