The White House is escalating its response to two days of unrest in Los Angeles following anti-migrant blitz operations. Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 2,000 soldiers from the National guard to manage clashes in the Californian city. Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth also raised the possibility of sending in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Confrontations between demonstrators, police, and Federal agents from immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) erupted in the Paramount neighborhood, an area with a large Latino population, during an ICE operation. Trump ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles to manage the unrest, stating in an ordinance that “To the extent that protests or acts of violence directly inhibit the execution of the laws they constitute a form of rebellion against the authority of the United States government,” and that the units will “temporarily protect” immigration officers.California Governor Gavin Newsom responded on social media, stating, “The federal government is mobilizing the national guard not because there is a lack of applying the law, but because they want one show. Don’t give it to you. Never use violence. Talk peacefully.”
