The Neuro Swallow Assist is designed to aid individuals who have difficulty swallowing,a condition known as dysphagia,which can lead to food entering the lungs. Christian’s innovative solution aims to restore a essential aspect of daily life: the ability to eat safely and independently.

How It Works

The device employs a sophisticated system of sensors and electrodes to stimulate the muscles involved in swallowing. As Christian explains:

The idea at the base is to stimulate the right muscles, check that the breath is safe and release the food in the perfect moment… If you breathe well and you are ready to swallow the device understands alone.

The system uses small electrodes, either applied as patches or implanted as a microchip, to stimulate throat muscles. Sensors monitor breathing and readiness to swallow,triggering a small electrical impulse to activate the swallowing muscles. For individuals with a tracheotomy, an electronic valve temporarily closes during swallowing, ensuring food passes only into the esophagus. A micro-pump delivers small amounts of liquid or gel food to the pharynx at the precise moment, preventing overload. The system continuously monitors breath,muscle movements,and food passage,alerting the patient or caregiver to any issues.

While not a “magical solution,” the Neuro Swallow Assist represents a important advancement for those dependent on percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes for feeding.
