A family in Ireland, among the last to have their power switched back on following Storm Eowyn, described the moment as a “Christmas morning.”

Mary Meehan, her husband, and their two adult children faced significant hardships since the storm hit last month. The ordeal lasted for nearly three weeks, taking a physical and mental toll on the family.

Life Without Power

Mary detailed the daily challenges faced by her family, including cooking at her workplace and cleaning at her sister’s house. For the first few nights, darkness and coldness made evenings particularly difficult. Eventually, a loaned generator helped ease their situation.

The family’s eldest son had to stay in a B&B in Galway City to attend online courses and study. Meanwhile, Mary’s husband, a part-time farmer, resorted to using flashlight for work. They also lacked running water for the initial five to six days, making life demanding, especially with cattle in sheds.
