The good thing about the newest brands is that, compared to those of greatest experience, they have simpler ranges, in which it is easy to see the weight that each of the models they offer has. In the case of Polestar, success is given by Polestar 2, a vehicle that is 4 out of 5 sales. Some time ago, it was announced, from the company itself, that it would not have a successor, but it seems that the plan has changed.
Michael LohschellerCEO of Polestar, has spoken with Drive about the future of the brand and, from its point of view, the Polestar 2 has its hole assured in the range: “Let’s say it like this: I want to recover those current customers of the Polestar 2. I want to have them, because we expand the client base. I think we did a great job and I want them to remain part of the family”.
The most successful brand model
It is necessary to have an access model below the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, and considers that, since the 2 has succeeded, it makes no sense to change its name: “No, that is important because we have implemented it with great success. He has, as I said, 180,000 clients currently, right? There will be a successor of the Polestar 2, no doubt. Without a doubt.”
It is a considerable change of approach, since its predecessor, Thomas Ingenlath, said just a year and a half ago that they would not replace a model with another that used the same name. However, Lohscheller said that it has always been the plan: “No, and I think it is very consistent … the Polestar 2 will have a successor, because it goes back to that car. If it were a new type of car, we could discuss whether it is a polestar 8. And that means that we obviously want to keep the clients of Postar 2, right? But no, no, there will be a successor.”
Of course, it will not be exactly a tracing in a new generation, but we will continue to develop things, right? We will not only do the same as in the past, but, I would say, there will be more. ” With this, the format it will be left in the air, since it might not repeat the crossover type Berlin body that the current model looks, but it has not said what options are being considered. However, there is one thing that Lohscheller makes clear: “Our clients are very firm in that aspect and say: ‘Let’s not do hybrids'”, so, as with their brothers, the electric mechanics will continue to be the only option available.
It won’t arrive soon
Given the comment that perhaps the Polestar 2 was being old, he was completely against: “I am not sure to agree with that statement. Of course, all cars age, but if I observe the competition, its characteristics and its performance, I would say that the Polestar 2 is absolutely at the forefront, especially with the latest changes of ‘Model Year’ that we implement. I, in all our key markets. ”
With this, Lohscheller makes it clear that the vehicle is still up to date, something logical if one takes into account that the vast majority of the company’s historical sales are of this model. Therefore, this new model will be seen in the air. It seems clear that it will not do so before the Polestar 7, a small SUV that will be launched to the market in 2028. It could be the vehicle that follows it, since the 6star 6, initially planned by 2026, has been delayed indefinitely.
Currently, Polestar 2 is available in Spain from 39,990 euros, including both the aid of the Moves Plan and the brand’s purchase incentives.
