2024-2025 Morning News Ratings: TV Season Report

This was GMA’s 13th consecutive year finishing the season as the most-watched morning newscast.

Meanwhile, Today took the top spot in the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo for the just concluded season.

According to Nielsen Media Research, GMA had 2.644 million total viewers and 470,000 A25-54 viewers for the 2024-2025 season. When comparing its performance to the 2023-2024 seasonGMA was down -6% in total viewers and -10% in the demo.

Today averaged 2.604 million total viewers and 626,000 A25-54 viewers for the just-concluded season. The newscast was down -5% in total viewers and -6% in the demo compared to 2024. It recorded the smallest viewership erosion among the three newscasts for the season.

CBS News’ CBS Mornings finished the season with an average of 1.940 million total viewers and 346,000 A25-54 viewers. It was down by -10% in total viewers and -20% in the demo vs. the 2023-2024 season.

Week of September 15

Disney’s decision to temporarily sideline Jimmy Kimmel did not severely affect ABC News’ Good Morning America performance, as it remained the top show in total viewers for the just-concluded week.

However, the gap between it and NBC News’ Today shrank to a difference of 74,000 total viewers for the week of September 15. Another bright spot for Today was that it was the only morning show to record a week-to-week gain in either of the measured categories.

According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.590 million total viewers and 483,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of September 15. Compared to the previous weekABC News’ morning show was down by -3% and -1%. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (Sept. 16), GMA was up in total viewers by +3% and +15% in the demo—it was the only morning show with gains in this year-to-year comparison.

Today finished in second place in total viewers, but it maintained its No. 1 status in the demo with 2.516 million and 584,000 viewers, respectively, for the just-concluded week. The broadcast experienced a decline of -1% in total viewers but saw a +1% lift in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2024, Today was flat in total viewers and down -12% in the demo.
