Because she has lost control of her e-scooter, a 25-year-old jumps off it while driving. The scooter then crashes driverlessly against a car in front. The 25-year-old drove on Monday afternoon on the “An der Wied” street in Mainz-Bretzenheim. When crossing an intersection, the loss of control described above occurs, whereupon the driver decides to jump off the scooter. This drives a short distance further and then hits the rear of a car in front. Slight property damage occurs to the car. The driver remains uninjured. The reason for the loss of control remains unclear. The scooter is properly insured so that the damage caused can be handled by an insurance company.

Note: E-scooters are considered small electric vehicles and must be insured. Many insurance companies offer liability insurance for mostly low contributions. The use of an e-scooter without insurance cover regularly constitutes a criminal offense under the Compulsory Insurance Act and can be punished with a fine or imprisonment for up to one year.
