Lionel Finance, a former alpine skier, was injured in the spine following a fall on the Pisaillas glacier, near the Iseran pass. The Modane mountain rescue station (Savoie) assisted the descender, victim of a brief loss of consciousness. The regular runner skied under a chairlift, thinking that the section was passable, he was actually strewn with stones.

The vital prognosis is not engaged, but the damage to the spine was deemed serious enough to order an evacuation to the Grenoble-Alpes university hospital center, aboard the gendarmerie helicopter.

Aged 53, Lionel Finance played in the World Cup from 1991 to 1995. The Frenchman won a 14th place during the descent of Val Gardena (Italy) on December 17, 1993. Originally from the Vosges, he is the boss of the S-Team training structure since 2016, and has notably supported the French women’s downhill team.
