Darmstadt (ots) – On Wednesday (01.07.), Civil investigators carried out extensive control measures at Luisenplatz with the support of the Hessian riot police. The background to the deployment in Darmstadt city center was the fight against drug trafficking and street crime. At 4.15 p.m., a total of 30 people were subjected to a comprehensive inspection around the monument. The emergency services confiscated four men aged 32 to 46 and a 57-year-old woman from crack and heroin, which led to the initiation of investigative proceedings and treatment for the temporarily arrested persons. In addition, a one-handed knife and a pepper spray were also ensured during the searches. When the checkpoint was searched, further small amounts of crack and heroin were found, which according to current knowledge were discarded unnoticed when civilians were recognized. The five detainees were released after the police measures and were sent off. The police will continue to implement similar measures in the future.
