Newcastle United announced their first summer signing in the form of goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.
The 28-year-old arrives with a free transfer from Motherwell and will face Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow for first team action.
Gillespie, a former Academy player, cannot play in the remaining games this season.
Speaking after confirming the deal, Gillespie said, “It is an incredible feeling for me to sign for Newcastle.
“Being partisan all my life and being released at 16 was disappointing, but I left, I worked hard and now I’m back, and I can’t wait to take advantage of the opportunity that all Geordie would have dreamed of.”
Head coach Steve Bruce added, “We are very pleased to welcome Mark on board. He was there when he was young and did very well.
“He will give us a really healthy competition with our goalkeepers and we wish him well.”
United boss Steve Bruce said he wanted to lend Freddie Woodman again after his loan to Swansea City.
