TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo instructed Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to lead the development of the food sector project in central Kalimantan.
“Because these are our strategic food reserves, the advanced sector will be under the authority of the Minister of Defense with the support of the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing . Of course, we are also awaiting the support of regional governors and regents, “said the president via teleconference at Pulang Pisau Regency in central Kalimantan on Thursday July 9.
He hoped that with strategic food reserves, Indonesia would not experience a food shortage and would have reserves under any conditions.
“We have to manage it carefully. If the country faces a food shortage, it will be supplied from here. It can be rice, cassava, corn or chilli. Everything will be managed, and if we have an excessive supply, we will export it to other countries, “added the head of state.
Today, the president and Prabowo inspected the location of the food estate project in the village of Bentuk Jaya, Dadahup district, Kapuas regency.
The government planned to develop 20,704 hectares of new agricultural land in the Kapuas regency. 5,840 hectares were already exploited as agricultural land.
In total, there are approximately 165,000 hectares of potential agricultural land in central Kalimantan to be transformed into a national food domain. To date, some 85,500 hectares have been exploited as productive agricultural land.
