France imposes 225,000 sanctions for breach of confinement

French law enforcement has imposed more than 225,000 sanctions for breaches of mandatory confinement, in force since last June 17 to try contain the spread of the coronavirus, indicated this Thursday the Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner.

In that time some 3.7 million controls across the country, Castaner explained on the television channel “France 2”.

Economic fines

The fines for not respecting the rules of the confinement are initially of 135 euros, although they can go up to 1,500 euros in case of recidivism in 15 days. If the rules are violated more than three times in a 30-day period, the penalty can reach six months in prison and 3,750 euros fine.

A total of 100,000 police and gendarmes they are in charge of enforcing them. Although this Thursday all the police unions threatened to stop carrying out controls if the Government does not make available to the agents means of protection against COVID-19, and very particularly masks.

According to figures reported by the Director-General for Health, 1,696 people have died in France with the COVID-19, of which 365 on the last day, which means an acceleration compared to 231 in the previous 24 hours.
