Advertising for Disney + in New York
It’s the time of video streaming, and late starter Disney is catching up fast. However, Netflix is still ahead in terms of subscription numbers.
DEntertainment giant Disney’s streaming service continues to grow rapidly. Disney + had already acquired 50 million paying subscribers worldwide around five months after its launch, the group said in Burbank on Wednesday. The stock initially rose by seven percent after the exchange.
Disney opened the hunt for the market leader Netflix with the streaming service in November and immediately received a large flow of customers. Disney + scores with popular productions such as the Pixar and Marvel films, the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” and previously relatively low prices.
Netflix is still way ahead
The gap to Netflix remains large for the time being – the competitor recently had around 167 million customers. However, Netflix has also been in business for over ten years and in over 190 countries worldwide, Disney + has only been in a dozen so far. In Germany, the service has only been available since March 24.
