Curtis Jones has signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool and is expected to play an increasingly important role under the Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp.
The 19-year-old burst onto the scene this season, scoring a sublime FA Cup winner against rival Merseyside derby Everton in January.
He has participated in all of the other FA Cup Reds games and has also played two Premier League games with the champions.
A graduate of the academy and a native of Liverpool, Jones told the Liverpool official website his pride in signing a new agreement.
“For me, as everyone knows, it’s huge. It’s my childhood club and it’s also my whole family’s club, so for me it’s huge, “said Jones.
“I think the environment and all that is positive and keeps me as positive as possible. Of course we work with a great manager and around the best team in the world, so for me it was easy and [I’m] extremely proud. “
Klopp spoke last week about the importance of internal transfers for Liverpool’s future success.
The German said: “The problem with a strong team is how to improve a strong team in the transfer market? You have to be creative and we try to be creative. We try to find solutions internally.
“We have a lot of … we don’t have a first XI, I say we have a first 16 or 17, they can all play at the same level. But we have to use it 100%. And what we want create are our internal transfers. “
Jones appears to be one of those “ new ” signings as the Reds prepare to end the season in style before defending their Premier League crown in the next campaign.
Klopp also said the new Jones deal was a “reward” for his progress this season. “Really happy – and absolutely deserved,” he said on the official Liverpool website.
“It’s a little bit different from the announcement we made last year when Curtis signed his last contract. It was both the player and the club to make a long-term commitment to each other.
“Today’s news is more about reward. When Curtis signed, we promised him that if he continued to improve and grow as a player, we would make sure to recognize him and that is what we did. It’s our way here. “
