State economists and technicians, including Joaqun Leguina and Guillermo de la Dehesa, maintain that the measures of the state of alarm are “annihilating the Spanish economy and causing stigmatization of the elderly”
A group of experts in economics and state technicians has presented a manifesto,Against the confinement of the population, in which he shows his frontal opposition to the social isolation measures ordered by the Government ofPedro Snchezto stop the extension of thecoronavirus.
The signatories, Juan Jos R. Calaza (Economist and mathematician), Andrs Fernndez Daz (Emeritus Professor of Economic Policy at the Autonomous University of Madrid), Joaqun Leguina (State Statistician and former President of the Community of Madrid) and Guillermo de the Dehesa (state economist), consider that confinement “is an ineffective, humiliating, traumatizing and destructive fascist measure” that involves more problems than solutions.
The experts, “over 70 years old”, as they are presented, recall that confinement, “with the pretext of protecting the people most affected by the epidemic, that is, those who are over 60 years old,” is annihilating the Spanish economy, causing stigmatization of the elderly and constitutes, in his opinion, “a measure of dubious legality” legal.
“Spain will not be able to fit two crises in a row. First, epidemic; later, economic”, they say from the platform, which warn that young people will soon hold the elderly “responsible for the economic catastrophe, blaming them for having blocked their future.”
They denounce that confinement, from the point of view of the judicial administration, constitutes “house arrest”, without in this case previously having been a trial or sentence, and they believe that, therefore, it is a measure of dubious legality adopted brutally and irrationally , without any scientific basis.
As defended at first by the British authorities, in favor of closing schools and confining the population with the aim of developing “a kind of group immunity”, the signatories defend that “the infection of part of the population, let’s say 70% , propels a form of Herd immunity. Which protects the elderly next winter given that many people are reluctant to get vaccinated and the side effects of an eventual vaccine are unknown. “
And they warn: “People in Spain are dying from causes other than Covid-19 when creating bottlenecks in the emergency department.”
The solution, in his opinion, goes through the massive use of masks: “What saves lives is the prevention and massive use of masks when a critical threshold of contagion has not yet been reached and protecting, from the beginning, the elderly who are hardly they can assume their own protection in residences. “
Regarding the consequences of confinement, the four experts predict that “a State indebted to the economic collapse lacks the means to maintain an efficient health system capable of saving lives in the future.”
“The short-term vision of draconian measures taken in Spain is surprising, whose economic, family, criminal, intellectual, labor, affective, physical, psychological, etc. impacts, due to mandatory confinement, will undoubtedly be devastating,” they lament.
And they reject the criticisms formulated by the governments of Spain and Italy against community partners who oppose the emission of Eurobonds: “It is regrettable that European Latin countries that have pulverized their economies, as a consequence of the exaggerated measures imposed, ask the Netherlands and Germany save them by issuing Eurobonds. “
